R.I.P. Captain
LeRoy Arthur Leverone
April 01, 1930 - February 05, 2018
LeRoy Arthur Leverone, 87, of North Beach after living a
long and very full life passed away with his boots on February 5,
2018. He is survived by his loving family: son Michael F. Leverone
(Susan) of Reading, MA, daughter Theresa Henderson (Steve) of
Greenbelt, MD, grandchildren Julia
Leverone (Edgar Murillo) of Dallas, TX, Patrick Leverone of Reading,
MA, Madeline Henderson and Steven Henderson, both of Greenbelt. He
was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Leverone, his wife of 65
years Carolyn Leverone and sons Mark, Brian and Joseph Leverone. He
was born in Washington, D.C. on April 1, 1930 and raised in Mt.
Rainier, MD. He graduated from Mt. Rainier High School.
LeRoy
was an accomplished carpenter and home builder. During his first
career, LeRoy built approximately 150 homes in Prince George’s
County, as well as his own fourth and final home in North Beach.
When home building declined in the 1970’s, LeRoy started his next
career as a Charter Boat Captain on the Chesapeake Bay. He started
out with the Miss Teresa, a clam boat that he converted to a family
boat able to sleep seven and then to a charter fishing boat. He then
moved up to the Puddin II, a charter boat that was licensed for over
six, and finally got his own boat made in Crisfield, which he named
the Uncle Roy. He retired from charter fishing in 2011-except as an
occasional “captain for hire” which he continued to do until his
death. During his part-time retirement, he delved into more
woodworking projects and made some beautiful furniture, toys and
miscellaneous items.
A devout Catholic, LeRoy attended St.
Anthony’s Church in North Beach. LeRoy surely found his place in
heaven. Along the way he has built caring relationships with many
good neighbors and friends who will all miss him terribly.
